ALL RETURNS TO NOTHING
A project that explores how everything around us will eventually return to nothing, most likely through the decomposition of mushrooms.
All Returns to Nothing first started as a drawing exploration inspired by Jae Rhim Lee's Green Burial Mushroom Death Suit. Lee's research shows how mushrooms have the ability to decompose human bodies in the most ethical ways for the Earth, reducing us to nothing but plant food. Oyster mushrooms also have the ability to decompose plastic, potentially becoming a much-needed solution to help Earth. The project explores growing and drawing physical mushrooms themselves in different environments; observing and reflecting
their beauty and awe.
All Returns to Nothing takes its final form as a knit project reflecting the many strange shapes and textures found in growing mushrooms. Coming full circle, the knitted Death Blanket is created in reflection of the mushroom's ability to All Return us to Nothing.
